An Introduction To Using Fantastico & Softaculous
Fantastico is available for a few scripts; however, we have added a new library called Softaculous. You'll find the link to Softaculous right next to the Fantastico icon in the Software/Services section of your cpanel home page.
Softaculous and Fantastico offer a selection of over 160 free, high quality database-driven programs that you can install with just a few clicks. Included are programs such as blogs, content management programs, customer relationship programs, discussion Boards, e-commerce, and many more. There are site builders, guestbooks, polls and surveys, project management and the list goes on.
Click on either icon and you'll be taken to the main library page. On the left side, is a list of all the programs that are available for installation. IMPORTANT! You need 1 MySQL database for each of these programs that you choose to install. Since most hosting accounts have a limited number of databases available, only install the programs you need, and remember to uninstall any programs you are no longer using.
IMPORTANT! It is essential to keep your script programs up to date. We recommend checking with the developer on a monthly or even weekly basis. Script updates can include new features and "bug" fixes, but they almost always include security updates. Staying on top of security issues keeps your account and our server safe.
To install a program from the Softaculous library, navigate to the icon for the script that you want to install. You have three options: click on the Demo link; click on the Install link, or click on the graphic icon itself to be taken to a new window with more details about the program. You'll see links to an Overview, Screenshots, Ratings and Reviews and the option to Install. When you're ready, click the Install button and enter the requested information. Be sure to have the installation details emailed to you for future reference. Click Install. Wait for the confirmation / summary page and your done!
The option to uninstall the program is available as well. To return to the cpanel home page, click the "gear" icon at the top of the page.
To install a program from the Fantastico library, click on the program of your choosing. In the box on the right side of the page, you'll see a brief description of the program, a link to the developer's website, a link to a support forum (if any) and the option to install. When you're ready click the install link. Enter the name of the directory where you wish to install this program. Scroll down, to the Admin Access Data fields. In the first box, enter an administrator user name. It can be as simple as admin. In the next box, enter the password for the administrator area. Finally, in the last box enter a nickname to be used, if that box is required. The last step is to click the button that says Install.
You will see a summary of your installation on the next screen. Make sure everything is correct, and click the Finish Installation button. You will now see the confirmation screen, and have the option to enter an email address to have the details of the installation sent to you (highly recommended). You then need to click on the Fantastico HOME link at the top of the list on the left hand side. You may now click on the HOME link in the upper left corner to return to the main cPanel page.
You may return as many times as you wish and install or remove programs. Remember that you need to have 1 available MySQL database for every program installation.
You can now exit cPanel by closing your browser, or by using the Logout button in the upper right corner. Remember, if you are using a public computer, ALWAYS Logout of cPanel before closing due to security reasons.
